These are the available internship opportunities in AIHO, which are usually based either on existing AIHO projects or from availability of mentor consultants.
AIHO Immersion: Community Internship on Local Health Systems
#
In this internship, the students will be staying in a rural health center and will tag along with the municipal health officer and its staff, to see how public health programs are implemented on the ground, and how health services are delivered to the people we serve. The immersion may show challenges of public health system in the rural setting, but the internship intends to be inspirational, aiming to show that despite the challenges, public health professionals can be creative and innovative in serving their constituents.

Social Entrepreneurship in Public Health

How does social entrepreneurship fits in the overall health system strengthening? In this internship, AIHO will immerse its interns in the social enterprise initiatives in public health, and how these organizations navigate the opportunities and the challenges, while contributing to the overall goal of universal health coverage. Application of business concepts in public health will also be presented.

Engaging Community-Based Organizations in Public Health Program

In this project, AIHO demonstrates how community-based organizations can be engaged to be partner in public health programs, specifically on tuberculosis. The interns are expected to observe the project activities, contribute to ideation, and participate in project activities such as in meeting stakeholders and training engaged organizations.

Implementing Eye Health Program
#
How can the eye health program be implemented in the Philippine context? In this project, the interns are expected to learn the eye health initiatives, programs, and policies of the government. The interns are also expected to explore ways on how eye health program can be self-sustained by the local government units, given the devolved set up of health system in the Philippines.

Assessing the Implemention of Health Financing Policy
#
Policies are good, but are they implemented well? In this research project, the interns will explore how health financing policies, with its good intentions of providing financial risk protection to Filipinos in times of sickness, are implemented by the health facilities. This is a research project funded by the Philippine Council for Health Research and Development, and closely coordinated with Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth).

The Diverse Public Health Professional Practice
#
In this activity, the interns will be interviewing different public health professionals in the Philippines to explore the cross-cutting skills needed in pursuing public health practice. Learn from prominent Philippine public health professionals from government, nonprofit organizations, community health facilities, consultants, private sector, and advocates.

AIHO Immersion: The Community Internship

Our flagship advocacy activity, AIHO Immersion sends medical students to rural health centers to experience not just the provision of health services in a challenging setting, but also to experience how public health programs trickle to the ground.
  • Structured immersion, with pre-determined learning objectives
  • July to August for local students (during summer break); anytime for international students
  • With travel grant to select local students
  • With post-immersion debriefing to process the learning
  • With full support on coordination, logistics, and administrative aspect of internship
